May is National Pet Month!

As many of you may know, May is National Pet Month, and May 5 –11th is National Pet Week.  You might ask “What does this all mean?” Or “Why should I care?”  GREAT QUESTIONS, thanks for asking!

National Pet Week was created in 1981. It “aims to foster responsible pet ownership, recognize the human-animal bond, and increase public awareness of the value of veterinary medicine. National Pet Week honors Pets and supports Owners in caring for them. “

Sounds pretty good, right? It seems that I have always had animals as part of my life. Many people chronicle their lives by where they lived, how old they were, or where they worked. My perspective is different. The partitions in my life are the animal(s) that were with me. I have rarely, if ever, looked for a pet to share my life; most of the time they found me. Each was the right pet at the right time. Dogs, cats, parakeets, chameleons, parrots, snakes, rabbits, mice, and hamsters have all been a part of my world at one time or another. They all gave more than they took, although there were times that I didn’t see it at the moment.

I came into veterinary healthcare late, not deciding to go to veterinary school until my second year of college. From my very first day in a mixed animal practice, I KNEW this was what I was born to do.

Our Mission

…or why we do what we do.

My staff and I KNOW what a difference pets make in our lives. Our service to you and your pet is to help them live healthier and longer lives. Providing care is more than just a “job.” It is our mission to make a difference in our clients’ lives every day, by helping keep their non-human family members in the best of health. Our goals are simple, and they are our mission statement:

We will always attempt to provide the highest level of care to our patients, that their pet parents are able or willing to afford.

We will try to anticipate, meet, and exceed the needs of every pet, and pet parent we see.

We accomplish this by:

  • Utilizing a team approach to veterinary care. All of our team members are essential to this process.
  • Utilizing technology to improve care. We are a fully digital practice and use modern technology to communicate with you.
  • Always learning and expanding the options for care.

Medicine is always changing:

Medications that were once a fantasy have become a reality. Modern preventatives are now readily available to combat fleas, ticks, and internal parasites. Making conditions that could be serious and uncomfortable, almost completely preventable. Vaccines are now available to prevent once common deadly diseases. Some of these diseases can be transmitted to us. Immunotherapy now can help to manage chronic allergic and orthopedic conditions.

Diagnostic procedures have become less invasive and more accurate. Ultrasound, endoscopy, and digital imaging are now routinely used. An early and accurate diagnosis often leads to a better outcome and faster recovery.

Surgery has become less invasive and recovery times have been reduced. Laparoscopic, laser, and endoscopic surgery are now the standard of care at our practice.
